The property incorporates the restored Lal Durbar Convention Center, a palace built in 1890 by Prime Minister Bir Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana that combines European, Persian, and Nepali architectural styles. Guests can see a traditional aakhi jhyal carved window at the reception and a gazebo created by contemporary artist Tsherin Sherpa in the waiting area.
Rooms & Amenities
The hotel now offers 241 rooms and suites, each decorated with traditional Nepali woodwork and textiles. Rooms in the historic wing feature carved headboards and local artwork, while garden-view rooms overlook the property's pond and lawns. The on-site shopping arcade sells local crafts and souvenirs, and the garden area includes a pond with ducks and a Ganesha statue.
Dining & Entertainment
Yak and Yeti has two restaurants: The Spice Room serves traditional Indian and Nepali cuisine, while The Chimney offers European, Chinese, and Thai dishes in a setting with a large fireplace. Themed dinner nights and happy hour are offered on select evenings, and there is a tennis court for guest use.
